Oil Changes Done Right
Fresh, clean oil is one of the cheapest ways to protect your engine. Oil keeps moving parts from wearing against each other, carries heat away, and holds dirt until the filter can catch it. Over time it breaks down and gets dirty, and that's when engine wear speeds up. Northwest Autoworks offers oil changes for most domestic and import cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs.
What's Included
- Draining the old oil and replacing the oil filter
- Refilling with the right type and amount of oil for your engine
- A multi-point inspection every visit
- A tire pressure check
The inspection is a good chance to spot small problems before they turn into big repairs. We'll tell you what we see, and you approve every repair before we start. No surprises, no upselling.
How Often Should You Change Your Oil?
Most modern vehicles need an oil change every 5,000–7,500 miles with conventional oil, or every 10,000–15,000 miles with full synthetic. Your owner's manual has the exact interval for your vehicle. Lots of short trips, stop-and-go traffic, towing, and cold Chicago winters are hard on oil, and many manufacturers recommend changing it sooner if you drive that way.
Which Oil Is Right for You?
- Full synthetic resists breaking down in heat and flows better on cold mornings. Many newer engines require it.
- Conventional works for many older engines when it's changed on schedule.
- High-mileage oil is made for engines that have a lot of miles on them.
Not sure which one your car needs? Check the owner's manual or just ask us.
Signs You're Due
Your oil-change reminder is on, the oil on the dipstick looks dark and gritty or is below the mark, or the engine sounds louder than usual. If the oil pressure warning light comes on while you're driving, pull over safely, turn off the engine, and give us a call.
